Born out of a genuine love for acoustic music, comes
Alleghany Moon. The band was formed by a chance meeting, one moonlit night, at the Alleghany County Fiddler's Convention, in Sparta, NC, in July of 1999. Each member comes from a varied
musical background. Alleghany Moon blends traditional bluegrass with blues, jazz, classic country and western swing music.
Alleghany Moon performs as a trio, but often has a variety of other musicians join them for performances and recording. Whether performing as the trio or a larger group, the music is always heartfelt and full of emotion. Alleghany Moon simply must be heard live to be fully appreciated.
Lead singer, Cammie Collier, lives in Pinnacle, NC. Cammies background in vocals derives from many different genres. Early on, her influences were that of the gospel and bluegrass music she heard growing up in the rural community of Union Cross, NC. While in college, she ventured into many other areas including jazz, blues, big band and contemporary Christian. She brings all these influences to the band, both in her arrangements and her vocal style. Cammie is the rhythm guitar player for the band. She began playing guitar while a member of the bluegrass band, Virginia-Carolina, in Roanoke, VA, in 1995. While her rhythm playing is strong and consistent, the most quoted statement heard about her is youve got to hear this girl sing.
Lead guitarist and harmony vocalist, Bill Joines, hails from Whitehead, North Carolina. Bill comes from a long line of bluegrass and country musicians. He's enjoyed playing bluegrass and old time guitar for over 25 years. Bill has played with such groups as, Grayson Highlands String Band, County Divide, Borderline, Acoustic Blend, Southern Breeze and now Alleghany Moon. While a great guitarist, Bills ability to anticipate and follow Cammies vocals helps create the beautiful harmonies that have become one of the hallmarks of their sound.
Acoustic bassist, Scott Gentry, lives in Roaring River, North Carolina. Scott is an experienced touring and studio musician. His impeccable sense of timing and ear for phrasing creates a playing style on the bass that is smooth and strong with drive. Scotts background in Classic Country and Western Swing brings many wonderful rhythms to the bands sound. Scott toured the East coast with The Mitch Snow Band for many years, and on occasion shares his talents with other bands, including Merlefest regular, Dixie Dawn.
