The staff of iBluegrass wishes a sad adieu to American music legend John Hartford who succumbed to his battle with cancer. Our warmest condolences go out to his dear wife and family. John and his creative force and unique personality will be sorely missed in bluegrass and Americana music.

With powerful vocals and poignant lyrics about the struggles of Appalachian folk, bluegrass pioneer Hazel Dickens paved the way for the likes of Emmylou Harris, Dolly Parton, and Alison Krauss. The National Endowment for the Arts has recognized her contributions to traditional folk music by awarding her one of 13 National Heritage Fellowships.

We wish Diana Stearman, wife of SPBGMA president Chuck Stearman, a contiued and speedy recovery from a recent stroke. She is now out of intensive care and the prognosis looks promising. Cards and letters can be sent to:

Washington, DC area bluegrass musicians, industry experts and fans join forces to form the DC Bluegrass Coalition (DCBC). Modeled after the successful and influential Boston Bluegrass Union, the DCBC has held it's first organizational meeting and is now a formal non-profit organization dedicated to the promotion of bluegrass music in and around the Washington, DC area. The first board has been appointed and contains the following: Acting Chair: Kip Martin; Vice Chair: John McCann; Treasurer: Lisa Howard; Artist Representative: Sally Love Web & Media: Tony Kreindler; Secretary: Doug Eddy; Newsletter: Amy Tabor; Members-at-large in attendance: Mike Marceau, Melissa Coates, Amanda Lee, Ken Gallahan, Al Seiner.
